Genetic Tech Investigations: Prerequisite Knowledge

Prior to the Genetic Technologies Module, students should know that:

  • Information is stored in DNA
  • Information in active genes is transferred through a series of molecules in the cell: DNA to mRNA to protein
  • Proteins do a job in the cell/body, contributing to functions of tissues & organs, affecting health of whole organism
  • In genetic/inherited disorders, information within the DNA causes the molecular processes to go off track, leading to symptoms/health effects

Suggested list of materials to review before completing the module (if students have not completed Exploring Genetics through Genetic Disorders)
