Evolution Pilot Test and Training

July 26-29, 2016

The Genetic Science Learning Center has developed an NGSS-aligned unit on Evolution for high school Biology and is seeking teachers to pilot test the unit during the 2016-2017 academic year. This exciting new six-week unit utilizes real data, science practices and cross-cutting concepts to explore the shared biochemistry of life, common ancestry, heredity, natural selection, and speciation.

Pilot Testing will involve:

  • Attending an expenses-paid training in Salt Lake City, UT July 26-29, 2016
  • Using the six week unit with 2 or more general biology classes during the 2016-2017 academic year
  • Administering pre and post assessments, developed by AAAS Project 2061
  • A $600 stipend upon completion of the Pilot Test

iUTAH Summer Research Institute- UTAH TEACHERS ONLY

July 11-15, 2016

Perform hands-on field research with University scientists, high school students and undergraduates learning about water sustainability and quality issues along the way. Participate in a Utah water sustainability symposium and contribute your research findings.

Appropriate for: Utah Teachers of Grades 7-12 in Science , Social Studies and Technology

Compensation: $450 stipend

2 graduate credits from the University of Utah available for a $50 recording fee
